Human Relations Commission

At the July 27, 2012, Regular meeting, the Board of Supervisors adopted Ordinance No. 542 which created the East Norriton Township Human Relations Commission and prohibits discrimination in housing, commercial property, employment, and public accommodations based on actual or perceived race, color, religious creed, ancestry, sex, age, national origin, handicap or disability, use of guide or support animals because of the blindness, deafness or physical handicap of the user or because the user is a handler or trainer of support or guide animals, or because of an individual's sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression. 

 

The current East Norriton Human Relations Commission is comprised of seven (7) members.  All members are volunteers and serve without compensation.  Members can be either township residents or township business owners.  Members are appointed by the Board of Supervisors and serve terms of one, two, or three years.

 

The primary function of the East Norriton Human Relations Commission is to respond to verified complaints of Discrimination and (when all parties are agreeable) act as mediators to resolve the existing complaint.  Additionally, the East Norriton Human Relations Commission works towards the reduction of discrimination and harassment through outreach, informational, and educational programs.

 

Lastly, the East Norriton Human Relations Commission has working and work-sharing partnerships with the United States Department of Justice, the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission, the Tri-States Human Relations Coalition, the Philadelphia Human Relations Commission, as well as many local Human Relations Commissions throughout Montgomery County.
