The Special Meeting of the Board of Supervisors of East Norriton Township was called to order by the Chairman, Mr. Donald Gracia, at 6:36 p.m. on Thursday, November 8, 2007, at the Township Municipal Building. Supervisors present were Donald J. Gracia, Lewis K. McQuirns, James K. Staufenberg, James J. Serratore and Karen “Kandy” Heckman.
Following roll call, Mr. Gracia offered a prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance was then recited by all in attendance.
The Chairman then reviewed the purpose of the meeting. Mr. Gracia explained East Norriton Township is developing a segment of the Liberty Bell Trail within the Township as a non-motorized linear trail to link residential areas to commercial centers, regional trails, parks, open space and other destinations. The ultimate Liberty Bell Trail system extends for over twenty-five miles, between East Norriton Township in Montgomery County and Quakertown in Bucks County.
The Chairman called on Beth Pilling of the Montgomery County Planning Commission. Ms. Pilling reviewed the Montgomery County Trail System and how the Liberty Bell Trail relates to the trail system.
Samirah Steinmeyer of Simone Collins presented the Liberty Bell Trail analysis and preliminary design and goals. Joe Dietrich reviewed the challenges with crossing the trail over Swede Road and the options for stormwater management.
Several questions and comments were presented from the audience to the Board of Supervisors, Staff and Consultants.
The Chairman announced that the Township will collect written comments for sixty days and the Board of Supervisors will then schedule another public meeting in 2008.
Mr. Serratore made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 8:10 p.m. After requesting any comments and there being none, the motion was seconded by Mrs. Heckman and approved unanimously.
