Recreation events are published three times per year as a part of the Township Newsletter, "Issues". Newsletters are mailed to all East Norriton residents and dropped off for distribution at all township apartment complexes. Publication dates are March, August and November of each year. Special flyers and Recreation brochures are also published and distributed throughout township schools announcing sports leagues, and special events as well as the seasonal recreational programs which are published in "Issues".

East Norriton Township sponsors a Community Day Celebration each year on the Saturday after Labor Day. Plenty of rides, entertainment, demonstrations, food and fun are planned to entertain the entire family from toddler to senior citizen. Festivities culminate with our annual fireworks display shortly after dark.

Parks

East Norriton Township owns and maintains nine parks for residents to use and enjoy during their leisure hours. Over 122 acres of open space which consists of four neighborhood parks, a cemetery, several passive wooded tracts, and a community park now comprises the East Norriton Township Park System. Information on these parks including location, size, and park amenities are highlighted in the publication "A Guide to East Norriton Township Parks and Recreation Areas". This guide also highlights information on pavilion, dunk booth and ball field rentals as well as the rules and regulations that are enforced at our Township Parks. This booklet is free of charge and can be picked up at the Township Building or the Parks and Recreation Offices.

East Norriton Township is also in the process of constructing a "Green Way Trail" which will connect the western end of the Township from the Ballard Wollfe Park to the Norristown High School in West Norriton Township. This trail will also connect to the Paul Fly Elementary School and the Van Landeghem Tract. Also in the planning stages is the construction of the Liberty Bell Trail. East Norriton Township is one of 16 municipalities constructing this trail which will run from East Norriton Township to Quakertown in Bucks County. This twenty-five mile trail will follow the old route of the Liberty Bell Trolley as best as possible.

The East Norriton Township Open Space Plan Committee has also recently completed an updated Open Space Plan for East Norriton Township. This updated plan of the 1995 plan highlights over twenty-one open space parcels which are being considered as possible additions to the East Norriton Township Parks System. Monies for the acquisition of these parcels has been made available through the Green Fields/Green Towns Open Space Program sponsored by Montgomery County. East Norriton Township has been allocated approximately 1.1 million dollars for this project and will have to match the county allotment with a 20% match or about $220,000.

No News Is Good News

When you register for any of our recreation programs, don't wait by the phone or camp out by your mailbox.

The only time you will hear from us is:

  • If a class/event is full
  • If a class/event is cancelled
  • If there is a change in time or day for the class/event

So if it's almost time for your class/event to begin, and you haven't heard from our friendly staff, that's good news. Its Means You're In!
