Preliminary Flood Plain Maps

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) recently provided preliminary copies of updated flood plain maps to the Township. FEMA has not updated the flood plain maps for most areas of East Norriton Township since 1976. The preliminary version of the updated maps have been produced with more detailed information and with better computer modeling than was available in 1976. The revised maps will more accurately reflect the actual 100-year flood plain.

As a result of the updates, residents who own properties located within the boundaries of the newly revised flood plain may want to purchase flood insurance for their properties; and mortgage companies may require residents to purchase flood insurance when their property is located within the flood plain.

FEMA intends to formally adopt the updated flood plain maps in March of 2012. Residents who are interested in reviewing the updated flood plain maps should contact the Township's Code Enforcement Department.
